    Individual event

A seeding of participating athletes from first to last will be established from the March 31st, 2013 Canadian Fencing Federation junior domestic rankings. This seeding will be published on www.fencing.ca April 30th, 2013. The published seeding may not be appealed.

All poule rounds will be run as the standard 5 hits 3 minute bouts as according to FIE rule t.30.3

The top 16 athletes advance to the standard FIE direct (single) elimination round (FIE rule t.30.3) of 15 hits, maximum of 9 minutes divided into 3 periods of 3 minutes, each period is divided by a 1 minute pause. The two semi-final losers will both be classified third and will both be awarded bronze medals. The remaining athletes will be ranked from 5th place to last position according to standard FIE regulation.

    Team event

The team event will be fought using the Italian team model. In this model, all three weapons are included in team. Only fencers of the same weapon and gender will compete against each other.

Teams will be seeded according to the individual events aggregate points into an incomplete tableau of 16 allocating the necessary number of byes.

Teams will compete in a single elimination format. Gender specific teams will be comprised of 3 athletes (comprised of 1 per weapon) and 3 alternates (comprised of 1 athlete per weapon – gender specific). The coach is able to substitute fencers between team matches (at the complete discretion of the coach). Athletes may also be substituted due to force majeure during the team match, there is no provision for additional substitutions of the original athlete.

Following the declaration of the team members, a random draw will be conducted to determine the order of 3 events (foil/epee/sabre).

Team will follow a modified relay format to 15 hits. Each bout/lap will be 5 hits or 3 minutes whichever is achieved first.
