Cultural Programming: Time to submit your application!
The Canada Summer Games - Sherbrooke 2013 presents a unique opportunity to showcase the Quebec and Canadian artists who are true representatives of the richness and cultural diversity of our talent. Selected local and regional productions will be given a stage to dazzle the public. If you wish to be part of this exceptional artistic experience, we invite you to submit your application.
The cultural programming of the Canada Summer Games - Sherbrooke 2013 includes the opening and closing ceremonies as well as a number of events and activities to be held between August 2 and 17, 2013. The diversified nature of this program will be suited to people of all ages. The sport delegations will have a chance, be it only for a short while, to escape the pressures of the competition and to be carried away by the magic of art and entertainment. Moreover, these cultural activities will be a good opportunity for visitors and local residents alike to celebrate this grandiose event in the history of Sherbrooke.
The various sites for these events have already been selected. The opening ceremony will take place at University of Sherbrooke Stadium and the closing ceremony will be held at Parc Jacques-Cartier in Sherbrooke. Other activities and events will be presented downtown Sherbrooke, on the site of the Festival des traditions du monde and at Bishop’s University where the Games Village will be set up.
Artists and organizations interested in presenting a performance at the time of the Games are invited to visit the Web site at www.2013canadagames.ca under section Games/Culture to submit their application. There are two types of application: individual bid and request for proposal. A form must be filled and sent to the organization before May 31, 2012. All forms of art will be considered as long as they conform to Sherbrooke Canada Games values : excellence, perseverance, pleasure, responsibility in a spirit of friendliness.
A committee composed of the main stakeholders in the cultural life of Sherbrooke will be in charge of examining the projects and developing the program. Alain de Lafontaine will chair this committee as manager of Ceremonies and Culture’s service. This group is responsible for the preparation of a wide-ranging program that conforms to the values, the objectives and the financial parameters of the organization of the Canada Summer Games - Sherbrooke 2013.
